Abstract

This study proposes a basic learning program for creating ideas in visual communication design for students who do not specialize in design. Non-designers normally do not know how to conceive ideas to give form to information. We have developed exercises for non-designers to advance the elaboration of ideas through step-by-step processes; the exercises' subjects are perception, visual variables, signification, and time. This program focuses on making new meanings in the design process, not making forms. Through this program, we expect students to become aware of the meaning of visual images as they create and use them.
